The Idiom Principle & Groundless
Our small but versatile gallery is up for a challenge this year: hosting the 48h Art Space Lab Award, along with our own curated show ‘The Idiom Principle’.
Five young media artists were awarded the 2022 prize for their show ‘Groundless’, inspired by ‘Kafayi yemek’, the motto of this year’s festival.
“The Idiom Principle” (John Sinclair 1991) takes one step back and presents an abstract viewpoint. Subtei often allows itself a little break away from the festival topic…
Fundamentally it’s about the use and processing of language in chunks. Idioms are prefabricated word combinations, economic and easy to remember and firmly embedded in our metaphorical repertoire. Whatever the preset of words, they can be understood idiomatically or literally -single or open choice- its up to individual interpretation.
Come along and enjoy the different takes on the subject.
